There are doubts whether sponsors of the Southern Region Football Association Chitetezo Mbaula SRFA League, will extend their deal after the end of an agreed one year contract.
United Purpose signed a K 11.5 Million kwacha sponsorship deal with SRFA which ends on 4th February 2019 and possibilities of contract extension.
Speaking to a local radio station, the NGO’s Marketing Manager Leviness Msafu said the league was perfectly run but it remains to be seen whether they are going to extend the sponsorship.
‘’ It was a new thing as an NGO to support football, but we can say we worked together with Southern Region Football Association and FAM with the main reason of our sponsoring the league being making sure that Chitetezo Mbaula becomes a household thing to every Malawian so I think we have managed to do that’’.
‘’ On extending the sponsorship, as an NGO, we are yet to sit down to talk about this. When are going to come to a conclusion on the next step to take, we will come back to say whether we will come back or not’’, Msafu said.
Commenting on the matter, SRFA Chairperson Rafael Humba said the one year deal has been a success.
‘’ I think we have managed to promote their product, Chitetezo Mbaula and managed to fulfill the contractual agreements with had with them but it’s up to them to make a conclusion’’.
‘’ At the moment we are yet to know if they will come back to sponsor the league or not, but if they are not ready to do so we won’t panic, we will look for plan B”, Humba said.
Speculations are that if United Purpose will cut ties with SRFA in not extending the contract to sponsor the league, Rab Processors might come to the rescue of the Southern Region Football Association.
