The English Premier League fixtures called teams for action on 2nd and 3rd April to play for three points on day 32 of the 2018-19 season.
WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS VS MANCHESTER UNITED
On Tuesday 2nd April, Manchester United knew that going to Molineux Stadium to collect three points will not be easy as Wolves has been a hard nut to crack at home as they given trouble to big teams like Arsenal and Chelsea.
Manchester United also wanted to revenge the FA Cup quarter finals defeat they suffered on 17 March 2019 in the hands of Wolves which won by 2 goals to 1 to reach the FA Cup semi finals for the first time since 1998.
Manchester United without their Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly who is recovering from a head injury he suffered while on international duty two weeks ago, had their hopes for a top four finish dented as they lost to Wolves 2-1.
United were the first to score through Scott Mctominary in the 13 minute before Diogo Jota equalised for the home team in the 25th minute.
In the second half, Manchester United had their captain Ashley Young given a red card after a second bookable offence and with Wolves attacking United, Chris Smalling scored in his own net.
The defeat to Wolves mean United has played 32 games and collected 61 points and are on position 6 while Wolves is on position 7 with 47 points.
WATFORD VS FULHAM
Another match on Tuesday night was between Watford and Fulham at Vicarage Road Stadium.
Despite the Nigerian Isaac Success not being in the final squad for his team Watford, the team managed to defeat Fulham by 4 goals to 1.
Doucoure, Hughes, Deeney and Femenia were all on the score sheet for Watford with Ryan Babel scoring the consolation for Fulham.
Watford is now on position 8 with 46 points from 32 games and with the defeat Fulham are relegated from the English Premier League as they only managed to collect 17 points from 32 games.
On Wednesday 3rd April the battle for maximum points continued.
MANCHESTER CITY VS CARDIFF CITY
Manchester City has defeated Cardiff City 2 – 0 to go top of the English Premier League with 80 points, one more of Liverpool having all played 32 games.
In the game against Cardiff City, Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola gave the Algerian Riyad Mahrez a place in the starting team and he had a good game as he was marvel to watch on the right hand side of City’s attack and his smart cross set up Sane to score the second goal for Manchester City.
The Gabonese Bruno Manga started in central defence for Cardiff City and at times thrived against City’s strikers and the Gabon international did well despite his team losing as he made important decisions and tackles to avoid more goals.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS VS CRYSTAL PALACE
Tottenham Hotspur made sure that they collect three points in their first game at their new stadium Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when they defeated Crystal Palace 2-0 with goals from Son Heung Min and Christian Eriksen.
For Tottenham Hotspur the three points collected has moved them to position 3 on the log table with 64 points on the night the Kenyan Victor Wanyama replaced Son Heung Min in added time while the Ivory Coast defender Sergio Aurier not being in the squad for the day.
Crystal Palace had the Ivory Coast international Wilfred Zaha and the Senegalese Cheikhou Kouyate in the starting line up while the Ghanaian Jordan Ayew being part of the final squad for the day but was not given time to play.
The Senegalese Kouyate for the Eagles sat in front of his back four and was seen edging his team to attack Spurs when they were a goal down but failed to make much impact as Palace didn’t see much of the ball in an attacking sense.
The Ivorian Zaha failed to sparkle for Palace as he struggled to see much of the ball in the first half but eventually came back to life in the second half and saw his chance saved by Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Crystal Palace are now on position 13 with 36 points from 32 games.
