Malawian defender George Nyirenda says he looks forward to clinch his first silver ware in Namibia when his team Tigers Sports Club plays African Stars in the finals of the 2019 Standard Bank top 8 cup on Saturday.
Nyirenda who played for Azam Tigers before joining Big Bullets in Malawi were he won trophies with the club but was released last year says it feels good to be in the finals and that it is his dream to win his first trophy in the foreign land.
“I thank God we have reached the finals of the Standard Bank top 8 cup as it wasn’t easy but we worked hard and God was on our side and am very happy to have reached the finals of the Cup in a foreign land.
“It will be a tough game on Saturday as we will play against one of the big teams in Namibia as they do participate in the CAF tournament and last year they were champions of the league here in Namibia and we are not underrating them that as Tigers Sports Club we need to prepare well for the game.
“I have been able to play in such kind of games and the pressure is always there as supporters come in large numbers to watch the game and it’s an opportunity for me to showcase my skills as the game will give me an opportunity to expose myself,” Nyirenda said.
Nyirenda who also played for CAPS United of Zimbabwe in 2014 also said since joining Tigers Sports Club in February this year he has been enjoying game time but it’s only God who knows what the future holds.
“My contract is going to end this month but their has been talks between the teams top officials on what should be done as I have been one of the regular players for the team since I joined them and I leave everything in the hands of God as he knows my future as to whether I will still be here at Tigers Sports Club or move to somewhere else,” said Nyirenda.
