Mzuzu, Northern Region Youth Football Committee (NRYFC) says it will hold Under 17 National Football Team trials where 20 successful players will battle it out with others from southern and central regions.
In an interview Thursday in Mzuzu, NRYFC General Secretary, Desire Bellings said 60 players from all districts in the north would undergo the trials in Mzuzu from July 13 to 18, 2019.
“On Saturday players will be reduced from 60 to 45 while on Sunday a list of 30 players will go in camp up to Thursday and a final squad of 20 players will set off on Friday morning for Blantyre,” he said.
Bellings said selected U-17 players would make a squad that would host Council for Southern Football Associations (COSAFA) U-17 in September, 2019 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
“All players will have their chance to be exposed and the best will be picked and nurtured further for the better development of football in Malawi.” he said.
The General Secretary said the players are registered by the NRYFC through U-17 Presidential and Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) to clear issues of age cheating.
