Malawi National Football team interim coach Meke Mwase has named a 34 man provisional squad to go into camp on Sunday 19th May at the Mpira village in Chiwembe, Blantyre to start preparations for the COSAFA tournament to take place from 25th May in Durban, South Africa.

In the provisional squad, Mwase has combined some of the players which were part of the teams last week when it played against Eswatini in the Champions of African Nations (CHAN) and Malawi under 23 national football team players that played in 2020 Olympic qualifier with Nyasa Big Bullets contributing a total of 10 players, and has also recalled Silver Strikers goalkeeper Brighton Munthali was was dropped from the Flames CHAN second leg match against Eswatini on disciplinary grounds.

Mwase has also called professional players, Gabadinho Mhango and Gerald Phiri jnr who play in the Premier Soccer League in South Africa as well as Richard Mbulu, John Banda and Chawangwa Kaonga who play in Mozambique to strengthen the team at the tournament.
Foster Saidi of Blue Eagles Football Club and Chikayiko Batson of Tigers Football Club have been handed his first call ups to the Flames while Zicco Mkanda,Chiukepo Msowoya, Khuda Muyaba, Gastin Simkonda, Alfred Manyozo and Richard Chipuwa who were in camp with the Flames last week have been dropped.

Meke Mwase is expected to leave the country on Thursday with a 20 man squad for a two weeks tournament and the Flames will start this year’s tournament on 26th May against Seychelles.
