FIFA president Gianni Infantino tour to Malawi which was scheduled for Wednesday 27 November 2019, has been postponed until further notice.
In a press statement released by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and signed by general secretary Alfred Gunda, the postponement is due to the ongoing rehabilitation works on the Chileka International Airport. The main runway made it not impossible for the presidential jet expected to carry the FIFA president entourage to land.
The press statement further says that efforts to have the plane land at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe and use other means to transport the delegates to Blantyre were unsuccessful. This was due to the tight schedule of the FIFA president who was expected to leave for Democratic Republic of Congo at 7 pm.
Gianni Infantino’s visit to Malawi would have been the second time for a sitting FIFA president to come to the warm heart of Africa. Sepp Blatter was the first one to visit in 2002.
