The Malawi under 20 national football team started this year’s cosafa youth championship on a good note. They defeated Comoros Islands 4-0 in a group A match played on Wednesday at the Nkoloma stadium.
The jnr flames took control of the match in the 27th minute through Patrick Mwaungulu who scored from close range to lead 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, Malawi doubled the lead through Francisco Madinga who headed home a cross from the left after a number of passes by the jnr flames.
Patrick Mwaungulu put the game to bed in the 65th minute when he connected home a low cross before completing his hattrick in the 90th minute.
The Jnr flames are expected to play their second group A match on Thursday against Botswana before facing Zambia on Sunday.
Zambia is at the top in group A with a better goal difference after defeating Botswana 5-0.
