In the 2018/19 English Premier league season, one can not despise the fact that African players had a great role to play for their teams.
With the season ended, below is a list of five Africans who shined in the 2018/19 EPL for themselves as well as their clubs.
1. Mohammed Salah
The Egyptian born striker was as an important figure in as far as Liverpool’s attack was concerned.
His presence on the pitch lifted the team and inspired the other players to play with purpose.
The Egyptian Salah made 38 premier league appearances for his club and ended the season with 22 goals. He finished as a joint top goal scorer. He also inspired his team to finish second in the EPL.
The Senegalese Sadie Mane was part of Jurgen Kloops reliable attacking machines at Liverpool. Sadio Mane scored 22 goals in his 36 appearances for the club. He also won the golden boot of the season.
3. Riyad Mahrez
The 28 years old Algerian midfielder proved to be one the most important additions to the Pep Guardiola side.
It was his first season after joining the club from Leicester City, the Algerian made 27 appearances for the club in the EPL .
Despite failing to earn and cement himself a place in the starting line, Mahrez delivered when given a chance to play, scoring seven goals. He should be happy to have won his second EPL gold medal as Manchester City were crowned champions of the season.
4.Pierre Emerick Aubameyang
The 29 years old Gabonese striker proved to be a good asset for Arsenal as far as scoring goals is concerned. He managed to bang in 22 goals from 36 appearances and finish the season as a joint top goal scorer in his debut season after joining from a Bundasliga side Borrussia Dortmund.
5. Wilfred Zaha
The Ivory Coast international Wilfred Zaha had a top class performance in the 2018/19 season. Many would wonder why Zaha engineered most goals and inspired victory for the club.
Zaha netted 10 goals as he showed class and brilliance in the ended season. He has recently handed in a transfer request as he wants a team that plays champions league football.
