Blue Eagles defeated Be Forward Wanderers 4-3 on penalties to win the Bingu Ikhome Bonanza organized by the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM).
Blue Eagles was a better side of the afternoon from the start no wonder Wanderers was under pressure. In the 13th minute Eagles took the lead through a Schumacher Kuwali striker to the delight of their supporters.
After conceding the goal , Wanderers leveled their game in search of an equalizer which came in the 31st minute through Francis Mkonda.
In the second half,Blue Eagles created a lot of chances but failed to concert them into goals.
Both side made tactical changes but no goal more goals were seen for penalties to settle the match.
During Penalties, Bongani Kayipa failed to convert his penalty after Onesimo Mbendera had scored for the area 30 based side.
After the match coach for Blue Eagles , Deckleck Msekakuona was a happy man.
“Am happy we have won this bonanza and am satisfied with how we have played in all our two games. We just need to transform that performance to the TNM super league”, he said.
On the other hand, coach for Wanderers Oscar Kaunda said
” We wanted to win the bonanza but it has gone the other way. Am satisfied with how the players who have not been featured regularly have performed. It shows we are determined to fight in the super league.
For winning the bonanza, Blue Eagles pocketed K5 million.
