Lucius Banda also known as Soldier Lucius Banda on stage is a Malawian singer, songwriter and politician from Balaka district, Malawi.
Banda was a Member of Parliament, MP of Balaka district north in the year 2006 but unfortunately, he lost his position because he was judged to have fake academic qualifications. With that development, he was sent to jail to serve 21 months of hard labour in Zomba prison.
Three months and two appeals after his arrest, he was released in November in the same year 2006. With that experience, Banda released ‘Cell 51’ album maximum.
Banda was unsupportive of Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda during his regime and this pushed him to be the first musician to sing publicly against political oppression in Malawi during the one party system.
In April 2009, Banda recorded 14 albums namely Life, Son of the Poor Man, Fifteen-fifteen, Not Easy Road, Mzimu wa Soldier, Time, Yahwe, Enemy, Ceasefire, Down Babylon, Thank you, Survivor, Money and Power, How Long?, Unity, Take over, Crimes, The Very Best.
He has been host to many popular artists and musicians and supported the launch of many careers including Billy Kaunda, Mlaka Maliro, Emma Masauko, Paul Chaphuka, Charles Nsaku, and Victor Paul.
