AFRICA – [MALAWI]

2013 –  Dr Ken Lipenga,was the Minister of Finance under the presidency of Joyce Banda, until 10 October 2013, when he was dropped in a cabinet reshuffle and replaced with Maxwell Mkwezalamba following the Capital Hill Cashgate Scandal.

AFRICA – [DRC]

1996 – Army men killed 50-60 civilians in eastern Zaire in the village of Bambu in the Masisi region. The Banyamulenge immigrated to eastern Zaire from Rwanda decades ago.

1998 –  In Congo Tutsi rebels shot down a Boeing 727 Lignes Aeriennes Congolaises airliner following takeoff from Kindu. Airline officials said there were 38 passengers, mostly women and children. Rebels claimed the passengers were soldiers. 41 people were killed.

2004 –  In eastern Congo 2 boat accidents on Lake Kivu killed 68 people.

2017 –“Thor: Ragnarok” directed by Taika Waititi, starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Cate Blanchett premieres in Los Angeles, California

2005 – Negotiation between the CDU/CSU and SPD in Germany conclude with the two parties agreeing to form a grand coalition with Angela Markel as Chancellor after both parties Lost seats in the 2005 German federal election.
